Let it Snow! A Winter Wonderland Play Date

Ho Ho Ho! Merry Christmas!

Having spent four freezing Christmas-es in the Netherlands, we are finally back in the tropics this year to spend the cozy holiday with more loved ones (& more presents to the little ones). Ironically, what my boys and I missed is the cold and dark days where we can just snuggle together on the family sofa with thick blankets and socks, waiting for Daddy to come home from work as the sky turns dark at 4 pm.

This year, in the comfort and love of our homeland, we recreated some of the memorable winter experiences we had over the past four years in this miniature winter wonderland. It was a joy creating this play snow sensory tub with my elder boy. As we moulded the play snow using baking soda and shaving foam, he talked about how real the texture of the play snow was, it even felt a little cool to touch. We set up different themes in the winter village. There is a snow mountain which was made from paper marche and he suggested adding a Duplo slide. There is a campfire made up of twigs and LED candlelight and even real mini marshmallows on twigs to barbeque! There is a tiny blue pond to go fishing with DIY fishing rods and magnetic fish. There is a Christmas Express train running though the village. Trees waiting to be decorated with pom poms. You can even build a snowman! The boy enjoyed playing with the play snow and creating a snowing effect over the mountain and the tiny people in the village. A few moments later, he brought in his own Lego airplane and landed it on the soft snow. He was immersed in his own imaginary play as I see him making up dialogues as he played.

This sensory play was brought to a family friendly cafe- Inspirit House at Punggol Settlement. I have been collaborating with the cafe to host monthly play dates for young families where they can enjoy some fun bonding time with their little ones on a lovely weekend morning.

Here are some photos from the play date.

I love this station the most! Flickering light from the campfire. Old couple enjoying their time in front of the fire.

Do you wanna build a snowman?

Priceless smile

I want to bring my snowman home with me!

Fun time!
